Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program

The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program offers free tax preparation of federal and state returns to low-/moderate-income working families in the Kansas City metro area. VITA also provides outreach on tax incentives, particularly the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and Child Tax Credit to low-/moderate-income taxpayers. Our two sites, one in Wyandotte County and one in Johnson County, offer assistance in both Spanish and English.

Volunteers are the lifeblood of the VITA program. Because all positions are volunteer-based (greeters, tax preparers, and quality reviewers), no volunteer receives any kind of compensation for their time and travel.

We are fortunate to have great volunteers from Ford Motor Company, H&R Block, the IRS, Sprint, and the University of Kansas. We welcome assistance from retired persons as well as those who are still employed.

At both sites, we can help you with the preparation of your taxes all year-round and the application for the ITIN number. All these services have no cost. Please contact us at any of our locations:
