Our Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) sites are up and running in both Wyandotte and Johnson County.  You may qualify for free tax preparation if you earned $54,000 or less in 2015 and don’t own rental property.

El Centro’s Economic Empowerment Manager Chris Flores leads our VITA program.  “Volunteers are the lifeblood of the VITA program,” said Flores and “we are fortunate to have so many dedicated volunteers serving as greeters, tax preparers and quality reviewers at both of our sites.”

Additionally, Chris is a Certified Acceptance Agent for taxpayers who need to apply to the IRS for an Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN).  This application process is available at no charge. Please contact Chris Flores at 913-677-0100 for more information on VITA and for application assistance with ITIN.

Last tax season, volunteers at El Centro’s VITA sites prepared 1,410 Federal Returns, with clients receiving a total of $1,878,595 in Federal refunds.
